During the 90 NFL season

Madden was first released by Microsoft PC in 1988 during Jackson's second season in the NFL. However, due licensing issues and a hip injury sustained during the 90 NFL season that forced his early retirement from football. Jackson never appeared in Madden in his playing days.

I have had good results with Man coverage, in general, however I started to utilize Zone when I was willing to allow my opponent a little field. In the case of, say, when I've gained the lead with the remaining minutes in the clock, I'm comfortable with allowing my opponent to play on my side In this case, I'll utilize an arrangement called Cover-3 Deep to give my opponent some grass, knowing that I'm unlikely to give up a big play. It's possible to be exposed in this way - great players work the sidelines, for example , however, I'm generally finding succn made his Madden debut with a special edition participant with The Ultimate Team game mode.

This week, EA Sports announced that not only will Jackson make a return on his first appearance ever since Madden NFL 15, but Jackson will also have the honor of becoming a Madden cover athlete. About 35 years after his NFL career began back in 1987 Jackson can be seen on the special cover featuring a digital version of Madden NFL 22. On Friday, players are once more able to play the game with him online. EA Sports also teamed up with Nike to recreate the brand's iconic Bo Knows ad campaign by incorporating a digitally rendered version of his signature footwear, The Nike Air Bo Turf, into the game.

Jackson has become the seventh running back designated a Madden cover athlete. He follows Eddie George (Madden 2001), Marshall Faulk (Madden 2003), Shaun Alexander (Madden 2007), Peyton Hillis (Madden 12), Adrian Peterson and Barry Sanders (both Madden 25).

In the days before the cover reveal, The Undefeated's Aaron Dodson caught up with Jackson to discuss his Tecmo Bowl days, how Bo Knows came to life during his Madden return, and much more.

Edited for clarity and length.

What does it mean for you to finally be an athlete who covers the sport 35 years after the start of your career?

The idea has been in preparation at times. The moment had to be suitable for my business. Working with the Madden people to iron things out, cross out all the dots, cross the t'safter we had that completed, everything else was simply going to go for it. I realized that somewhere in my history I'd done the right thing to continue to be remembered as one of the greatest athletes of more than 30-years ago. Madden is still thinking enough of me to do something like this.

The video game you played in your past dates back to 1989 when you became the hottest player at Tecmo Bowl. Was it a thrill to see yourself as a virtual person back then?

I still see myself in Tecmo Bowl. I've got this video game. I've still got the machine to play it on. It's just in a box someplace in the storage. It's iconic. It really makes me feel great to hear grown men in their 40s telling me"Hey, my brother and I were involved in the biggest battle of our lives because we each wanted to be in Tecmo Bowl when we were young. Therefore, our parents seized the game and my dad locked it away in his tools cabinet. It was not playable for a while because the fighting was too intense."I hear that a lot. When I'm at the sports memorabilia exhibitions, people come up with that video game. They tell me, 'I've owned the device to play it on. My kids play it. My grandkids play it ... as does everyone is still fighting over who is going to take on the role of Bo Jackson.' Tecmo Bowl ... that was a lot of tech that was in use back then. It's now viewed and you think, "Wow it's an old-fashioned.'
